It's not easy being green

Monday 14 June 2010
I just had to post this lovely vintage clip of Kermit the Frog singing about ‘It’s not easy being green’ a favourite from my childhood.   We all have to face difficult decisions sometimes and today I can confirm that we are going to continue producing our range of eco woman stationery in the UK (despite financial pressures to move manufacturing offshore) and focus on where we can make efficiency savings with our current suppliers.   ‘Be earth friendly and sustainable’ is our number one value and seems to be the right thing to do. Our notepads are loving hand... Read more →

Virgin says no to our 'RECYCLED, NOT VIRGIN' slogan

Sunday 6 June 2010
Prior to launching our eco woman stationery, I looked into registering the slogan ‘RECYCLED, NOT VIRGIN’ as a trademark, to use alongside our reecovid brand name. I contacted Richard Branson’s company Virgin Enterprises (via their patent attorney), to advise them of my pending trademark application and they said a big fat NO. I was stunned. We’re a tiny start up company, with big intentions and have genuine reasons why we wanted to use the word ‘virgin’ in our slogan including: It’s a relevant word used in our industry We only use 100% recycled PCW (post consumer waste) Our paper concept... The Starfish Story

Wednesday 26 May 2010
Original version by Loren Eisley - Anthropologist (1907-1977). I heard this for the first time yesterday and it’s really inspiring, so I thought I’d share it. One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?” The boy replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.” “Son,” the man said, “don’t you realise there are miles and miles of beach and... Read more →

The 'evolution of eco-woman'

Monday 3 May 2010
Our reecovid products give waste another chance at life. We like to think of it as a land of happy reincarnation, turning waste material into something beautiful, new and inspiring for you to enjoy. The ‘evolution of eco-woman’ collection is our first and was inspired by my own personal journey, which started about 15 years ago in New Zealand. The turning point After months of redecorating my first home (with my then partner Graham), we decided to rent out our property. Some tenants (a mother and son) moved in soon after. A year later they started to get behind with... Read more →

The green checklist

Monday 3 May 2010
Before producing our stationery products, we consulted the PPE (Paper, Print and Environment) website, created by David Shorto, ‘the greenest man in print’. David’s the print buyer for both Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth. It helped us make informed choices, to reduce our environmental impact when creating our first collection. We refer to it as ‘the green checklist’ and think it’s a really useful resource and worth checking out. Brand Name We had to find a suitable brand name that reflected our environmental considerations and found it one of the hardest things to get right. After hundreds of ideas,... Read more →

Feminists or environmentalists?

Thursday 25 March 2010
A friend of mine gave me some feedback today about our new site, which I thought I’d share, as it’s an interesting point she raised. Her point was our website comes across more from a feminist angle, than focusing on the environment. So the question remains, are we feminists, environmentalists or both? Here’s what I told her: Firstly, the environmental agenda is very important to us and we’ve done everything possible to create our reecovid products, with the least impact on the environment. In fact ‘Be earth friendly and sustainable’ is number one in our set of company values. However,... Read more →

Welcome to reecovid. To those of you that have just joined us for the first time, a very warm welcome to our reecovid (recovered) blog. You may have heard of us, the unique stationery products made from 100% PCW (post consumer waste), with no virgin fibre added, represented by our slogan WASTE, NOT CHASTE.  In fact, all reecovid products are not only made from recycled materials, but are also 100% recyclable. We like to think of ourselves as a small business doing big things for our customers and the planet! Originally we were going to launch, using our own bespoke... Read more →
